Standing Screens

Screens are viewed as furniture but I consider them to be paintings that are foldable. This kind of art earns its keep. Screens are sculptural, practical and useful. I use imaginary landscapes for science fiction iconography. The process of making each scree is obsessive in its nature. The general out line of the screen is a random expression that I create quickly on the raw wood and provides the only clue as to what direction the designs will follow. From the outline of the screen, shapes present themselves like a puzzle, I put the design together working with one at a time as if each shape was a separate painting.
